August 2009 - Originally from Vancouver
(Canada), Ryan Moore relocated to the
Netherlands from where he continues to
produce and release his own special kind of
DUB. Introducing the Twilight Circus DUB
Sound System!
|
|
|
|
Ryan Moore's been around for a while. He played in
several bands before becoming the Twilight Circus
DUB Sound System. Straight from his studio in
Nijmegen (Netherlands) into the heart and souls of
those who know how to apprecilove a better
DUB.
In an interview with the REGGAENEWS.co.uk
website, he explained where he came from and how
his music can best be described:
“All I know is when I first heard dub in 1981, I had a reaction: I thought, “WHAT IS THIS?” I was so attracted to the cavernous sense of space, the echoes. My take on it back then and my own theory which I wanted to develop was, that the drums and bass hypnotize the listener and mesmerize physically, whereas the other sounds on top, the higher frequencies and effects, influence the mind. So the combination of the two would provide the ultimate hypnotic trance- inducing experience to send the listener off on a journey to: Who knows where? As an experiment, I wanted to combine dub bass and drum patterns with more esoteric
sounds.” (LINK)
Almost two decades later, it can easily be
established how Ryan Moore indeed managed to
create his very own, special kind of DUB Reggae.
On one hand, the music leans heavily towards the
concepts and techniques of the Jamaican DUB
engineers in the early 1980's, on the other hand
there are many contemporary elements from all over
the world placed on top of what usually is a fat
drum and bassline.
